Dust off that “Saturday Night Fever” and “Boney M” record and get them ready to sell because vinyl is making a comeback.
There are several types and sizes of records, here are some examples:
Mixtape- An “album” an artist makes before they have a record deal. It is sold at cost or given away. Its purpose is to get the artists name out there.
Album- This term is still used today. It is music recorded by an artist but controlled by a record label.
LP- “long play” is an album that is over 40 minutes in length
EP- “Extended play” is an album under 40 minutes in length
Singles- Basically small records, one song on each side
There are 3 sizes/speeds of records: 33 RPM, 45 RPM and 78 RPM. 78 is the largest.
They stopped selling records in the late 80’s. They had a bit of a rise again in the mid 90’s but CD’s soon kicked albums out of the way.
Vinyl records are making a comeback now and are becoming popular in a small niche market. The condition of the record affects the amount you can get for it when selling. Collector terms that describe the condition of the vinyl are poor, good, very good, near mint and mint.
Where to buy
There are a few places to find albums- online, garage sales, second-hand stores and your parents or Grandparents attic are good places to start.
It is a profitable niche to be involved in for both buying and selling. The mark up can be high for something that is “trendy”
